mbrosia Boureois, the New Orleans Goddess of Gastronomy, is back as she uses food to seduce men and it converts them into the perfect guy. She attempts to perfect her craft by using traditional recipes from her deceased grandmother and occasionally consulting her mysterious aunt. Though she gets rescued from her home after Hurricane Katrina, it temporarily foils her plans of finding true love. For a moment, she thinks that she will start a new life with her youthful neighbor Marcus, but instead they go their separate ways. She ends up on an airplane heading to a mystery location, her final destination—Rockville, Maryland. After spiritual cleansing, she decides to find and purchase a permanent home in Fairfax, Virginia to regain a since of normalcy. Soon she resorts back to using food to seduce men in hopes of creating Mister Right. Ambrosia knows what to cook Memphis – some Maryland Chicken. She uses celery seed to reduce his cockiness and garlic powder to raise his desire for her. The concoction makes him sick. It did not matter to her; she did not foresee a future with him anyway. Ambrosia’s beauty mesmerizes Jackson Cooper, so he approaches her. To impress him, she talks about taking the Law School Admissions Test (LSAT). When he takes her to Union Station for a date at a popular Southern-style restaurant, she finds herself hobbling down the streets of the capitol with a twisted ankle. Lucius Delight, an Executive Chef, has a goal of opening a restaurant some day. He and Ambrosia hit it off on their first date – despite their previous encounters – and Ambrosia ends up making him a French toast casserole for breakfast. This begins their dating relationship. The potion works this time. Or does it? Ambrosia’s LSAT scores get her into law school. To give her a break from studying, Lucius invites her to his house for dinner. She freaks out because she never had a man cook for her. It subsides long before he presents her with a roundtrip ticket to New Orleans – the perfect place to consummate their relationship and to divulge his secret. After she graduates from Georgetown Law School, Lucius surprises her with an engagement ring. What does she say to his proposal? Is she ready for a life-long commitment? Is he the perfect mate for her or does he lack something? The Food Enchantress dishes up a mouth-watering treat connected by Ambrosia’s continuing quest for both love and culinary perfection. |

Recently, the federal government selected her to review and score grant applications on underage drinking. Rekaya has spent ten years working in the violence/drug prevention fields and several semesters teaching a communication course at a community college. In addition, she has taught employees at a local casino how to write in English. This encouraged her to start her own nonprofit agency that focuses on language skills and literacy.
In the near future, Rekaya plans to dabble in politics - or at least write about it - as she completes her doctoral degree in political science. She holds a Master's degree in Public Administration from the University of New Orleans and a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Affairs with a concentration in Criminal Justice from Indiana University. Although a transplant to Nevada because of Hurricane Katrina, she now calls Las Vegas her home. She was born and raised in Fort Wayne, Indiana. When the boat reached the New Orleans Superdome, Ambrosia saw tour buses lining the streets with hundreds of people standing in front of them. They had waited to load them and they did not want any further delays. Volunteers in yellow jackets passed out bottled water and Meals Ready to Eat to try to calm their anxieties. The Dome resembled a war zone like the rest of the city. “We better get in line, Marcus,” Ambrosia said before her foot could hit dry land. “Yeah, we better.” An escort directed them to the next available line. They searched the faces of everyone, trying to recognize friends. “Marcus! Marcus! It’s good to see you,” a young woman yelled and came running towards him. “Good to see you, too,” he said. They embraced for a minute as Ambrosia pretended not to care. “My mom and I are heading to Houston. The bus under the overpass is the only one going there this round. My mama is saving my space. You can get in line with us.” Marcus looked at Ambrosia. She knew what he thought before he could say anything. “I’m sorry, Ambrosia. I got to go check on my mom and figure out what to do next.” “I understand, Marcus. Hurricane Katrina has ruined plans for a lot of folks.” They exchanged brief hugs. “Perhaps we’ll see each other again one day.” “Perhaps.” She tried to smile as one lonely tear rolled down her right cheek. * * * Ambrosia’s bus took them to the Louis Armstrong International Airport in Kenner, approximately twenty minutes from New Orleans. She boarded a plane with everyone else from the bus. Everyone wondered where it planned to take them. The airline crew had been so secretive. Some folks felt restless. The events of the storm had them stressed. Most had waited on their rooftops for rescue boats or airlifts just like she had. “Hello and welcome aboard Sunshine Airlines. We will be making our journey to Washington, DC this afternoon.” “What!” Ambrosia barked. She could hear curse words and tantrums all around her. People were not happy. “… Sit back and relax. Our attendants will be bringing around a first-class meal and refreshing beverages for your enjoyment.” * * * Ambrosia sat in a cafeteria waiting on a volunteer to drive her to a temporary housing location. Most of the families had already received services, with preference given to households with children. This left Ambrosia by herself. She sat with a dazed and confused look on her face like the rest of them, wondering about their fate in unfamiliar territory. “Ms. Bourgeois?” a man yelled from the front door entrance. “Yes!” Ambrosia hopped off her seat, waving, and heading towards the door. “Hi, I’m Ed. I’ll be your driver today.” “Okay, Ed, it’s nice to meet you. I’m ready to go.” Ambrosia extended her hand to greet him. He shook her hand. “Alright then, let’s roll. I got lots of stops to make.” Ambrosia and the others loaded the sixteen-passenger van with little or no conversation. People were exhausted and mentally drained. They traveled on the interstate for thirty minutes before they ended up in Rockville, Maryland. The vehicle pulled up in front of an apartment complex, The Sweets. “Here we are, Ms. Bourgeois,” Ed chimed. “Thank you.” Ambrosia plopped down to the ground. BAM! The van door slammed shut and Ed drove off. Stunned, Ambrosia stared after the van, shaking her head. She proceeded to the front door of the complex. Before opening it, she exhaled, trying to put on a happy face. “Good morning!” she yelled. “Good morning, are you Ambrosia Bourgeois?” a tall thin woman asked as she came from behind her desk. “Yes.” “I’m Gloria. The Mission called to let us know you were coming. They made all the arrangements for you so you don’t have to worry about a thing. I just need you to sign some paperwork. Then I’ll take you on a brief tour.” “Wow, thank you. Thank you so much,” Ambrosia graciously responded. “I heard about you losing everything in the storm. I cannot imagine. I’m sorry for your loss.” Looking down in a moment of remembrance, Ambrosia mustered a thank you. “Okay, sign here, here and here, and we’ll be on our way. You’ll like Rockville. It’s not New Orleans, but it’s a great place to live.” “I’m looking forward to living here,” Ambrosia lied. She missed home. |
