"She would
never fight or argue with anyone even when challenged. Mama
tried to find a peaceful solution to every problem. Family
members often said that when she could not find the solution,
she just walked away to leave you standing there looking silly.
She would do anything to help everyone she met. Mama loved
people, but most of all she loved God.”
Brenda Anderson of Chesapeake may
be a mother and grandmother herself now, but she is proud to
have been one of her grandmother’s babies. Even after her 90th
birthday, “Mama Goldie” as everyone called her, could still make
the most mouth-watering rolls in town, dry up a child’s tears
with her gentle smile, care for anyone in need and even ride a
Harley Davidson. She may be gone now, but Brenda knows her
family’s beloved matriarch will always live on in the hearts of
her children, grandchildren, great-grands and so many others.
“Mama Goldie” lived with Brenda
and her family for the last unforgettable years of her life,
until she went home to be with the Lord at the age of 93. How do
you grieve when you’re the one everyone else turns to for
strength? Forced to cope without her grandmother, confidant and
hero for the first time in her life, Brenda was overcome with
emotions that she could only express in writing.
What she planned as private
reflections turned out to be the beginning of a healing process,
not only for Brenda, but for everyone “Touched by Mama.” If you
have ever been a caregiver, child or friend who has lost a loved
one who made such a significant impact in your life, this
family’s story will help you survive the loss and celebrate the
life. It transcends race, gender and generations to help you
recognize the miracles and cherish the meaning of that loved
one’s place in your life and beyond.
Read Touched by Mama and
transform the way you view life and death forever.
